In order to manage the players' fatigue in front of this year's T20 World Cup, reports claim that Shaheen's rest has been decided as part of the team's rotation program.
Shaheen will play in the last three games of the series, but he might be sidelined for the first few in Rawalpindi.
It is important to remember that Babar Azam took Shaheen's place as the T20I team's captain.
"A strategic move aimed at ensuring player well-being and peak performance," according to the PCB, described the modification.
"The board understands the need of rotation and respite to sustain Shaheen Afridi's peak performance, even if he has unquestionably established himself as a star fast bowler, spearheading Pakistan's pace attack throughout the years. The PCB continued, "This decision is in accordance with the board's commitment to preserving the lifespan of the players, particularly fast bowlers given their injury histories over the last two years.
This choice was made with workload management in mind in order to guarantee that Pakistan's star bowlers continue to perform at the highest level. The board does not want the national men's team to experience an injury issue with regard to bowling resources, as was the case prior to the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022, when Shaheen needed special attention, and the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup in 2023, when Naseem Shah was not on the team.
The team from New Zealand arrived in Islamabad on Sunday, and following the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, the team from Pakistan also gathered in the nation's capital.
